New California Law Expands Pay Scale Disclosure, Pay Data Reporting Requirements

Starting next year, California employers will be effected by the bill recently signed Governor Gavin Newsom (SB 1162). The bill, effective January 1st, will require employers to provide pay scales to applicants and employees when requested. Additionally, this bill expands California’s pay data reporting requirements to contain race, ethnicity, sex, and the median and mean hourly rates within specified categories.

Employers should review the new requirements and begin preparing to integrate and comply with the changes in 2023.
